A serial killer who was caught pushing a pram of human remains down the street has been jailed along with his girlfriend, for 15 years for the first of his crimes. Juan Carlos Hernandez, dubbed the ‘Monster of Ecatepec’, and his girlfriend Patricia Martinez Bernal were both jailed for hiding the remains of two women in order to cover up a crime. The couple were arrested on October, 4, in the city of Ecatepec, Mexico, while reportedly carrying the remains of human bodies in a pram. The pair face eight further charges, six for murdering women, one for human trafficking and one for kidnapping. Hernandez, 38, has previously admitted to having killed 20 women and feeding their hearts to his pet dogs. A video of him giving a statement after his arrest made headlines across the world as he told a doctor in police custody: “I call your f**king mother and she gives me her heart. “The officers found hearts. And I prefer that my little dogs eat meat from all those women than they [the women] keep on breathing my oxygen. “I prefer women a thousand times more for my little dogs or for the rats that them walking around.” He and his girlfriend, 44, were found guilty of hiding the corpse of Nancy Noemi Huitron, 28, who disappeared in Ecatepec on September 6 along with her two-month-old daughter. After allegedly murdering the woman the couple are believed to have sold the baby for £610. Huitron’s mother, Maria Eugenia Solorio, told reporters the pair had acted in court “like nothing had happened, they are not hurting at all”. The pair were also found guilty of hiding the corpse of Arlet Samantha Olguin, 22, who disappeared on April 22, 2018. After a long identification process, the remains were given back to her relatives in February this year. The pair was sentenced to pay two fines of 249,236 MXN – about £10,000 – as compensation to the families of the victims. The authorities state Bernal was responsible for approaching the victims, usually young women, and convincing them to go to her house to sell them some products such as cheese, clothing or perfume. Once the victims went into the house they were killed and dismembered by Hernandez, according to reports. Prosecutors believe there were 20 victims but the remains of only six victims have been identified. The couple face around 60 years in prison if found guilty on all counts, according to reports. The case is ongoing.
