The International Deaf Summit 2020 was held in Margao, Goa. It was organised by 1. Deaf Leaders Foundation (DLF) 2. Deaf Can Foundation (DCF) 3. Inspirealive. These three organised the programme. Also the IHRA, which stands of the International Human Right’s Association’s hearing committee worked together to organise the programme which was held from 2nd January to 5th January 2020. The event was extremely successful! For the event the Chief Minsiter of Goa were invited, the former Chief Minsiter of Goa was invited, the Health Minister was invited and various other prominent personalities were invited. They gave positive lectures in support of the Deaf event. At the event an Exhibition was held were Deaf & Hearing individuals displayed their amazing products. There were also various presentations related to education, accessibility, technology, etc. After the presentations they would have pannel discussions and answer questions from the audience. This was very beneficial to the Deaf audience. A talent show was also held where judges judged various participants and gave them awards. A paegent show was also held where individuals showcased various costumes. Prizes were also given. Russian dancers were also invited for the programme in Goa. It was a faboulous event! An international Deaf Film festival was held where many Deaf individuals sent movies to be reviewed by the judges. There were a variety of programmes! 400 Deaf people attended the programme. You can have a glimpse of the programme which had interviews, awards, presentations, drama etc. The State will consider all the activities you are doing. As our opposition leader told, Goa is always known for the different festival organisations. International Film Festival we are organising the National Games. In the long run, as you have organised the International Summit we can give whatever the help required when organising such a summit. Goa will be accessible for all the special people. So that they can come here as a tourist destination. As a tourist state, we are not only welcoming normal people but we are also welcoming you special people as you are the special guest for us. Thank you. I’m sure this summit, has organised lots of programmes. It will definitely benefit your people in the state of Goa. There are lots of people in the state of Goa suffering from this disability. I believe that people with disability, are always given a special ability by God. That is why we say that people with disability are people with special abilities. Which nobody can deny. I have seen that Mr Rajeev Baga was the world badminton champion. He was from your community. He was a unique distinction in the world. Like that I had seen one of my friend’s son was an Autistic child. He just graduated some days back. These are some of the examples. I am sure this summit will bring out all such success stories for the benefit of the people. People are giving presentations on topics such as accessibility, broadcasting news, technology, etc. A film competition has been held for Indian and International Deaf individuals who have created their own films. These will then be judged by a panel of judges. All the deaf people are excited to see who will receive awards such as best actor, actress director, editor, etc. Everyone is excited! A presentation was given by the ISLRTC regarding Sign Language and Human Rights. As you are aware, this programme is organised by Deaf people. And they are very skilled. Everything is very skilled and they themselves have organised this programme. So I have a question for you. In this Deaf community, what accessibility will you give to them? Accessibility is very important as it is their right according to RPWD Act 2016 The government has set up an Indian Sign Language Research & Training Centre Which provides training for Sign Language interpretation Also for Indian Sign Language we have already started 2 courses That is Diploma in Indian Sign Language Interpretation as well as Diploma in Teaching India Sign Language. We are of firm view that through promotion of sign language, we will be able to make the environment accessible for Deaf people. Quite interesting! There is another question. In India we have 22 official languages. Do you think ISL will be recognised as 23rd official language? Well, we can. In terms of having this right now, our objective is to promote Indian Sign Language through various means. Indian Sign Language research is a very important mission through which we can make this language more popular in disability amongst the deaf people. I really hope you support it as the 23rd official language. Yesterday a paegent show was held. Today participants will wear sports apparel & will walk the ramp and then they changed in the cultural apparel of their states and walked the ramp. A group of Russian dancers are here to present a Russian cultural dance. I am at the Exhibition where Deaf & Hearing persons are selling their products. Have a look. While I was having a look at the food products being sold, I saw something that excited me. A Deaf person was making Mocktails. I really wanted to taste it because he is Deaf just like me. Yumm! This is her sign name and she is from Pune. She was a part of the audience during the programme. What did you feel about the programme. The exhibition was beautiful! And yes Deaf can communicate and I was very excited to see it. Also there were many people who can from abroad to display their products. I enjoyed socialising with everyone. There is a lot to eat and it is very beautiful! Do you see the Deaf people around me taking pictures, eaing food and are all dressed up. What is this event called? It is the Gala. After all the programmes, from 8:00pm to 10:00pm people can socialise, eat, and take pictures have a look. 23rd language has to be brought in the parliamentary session and also in the state legislative assembly. As being a part of the Government of Goa, my wholehearted support will always be with you for the 23rd language. Because I have been travelling to the USA in past 6 months 3 times. I have seen a lot of things about Sign Language in the USA. Which is the most advanced countries in the world. We also know that the USA is a superpower nation. Why? Because it has its own technology. Though it is not having its own technology but they have money which can buy technology which can facilitate people of the USA. Did you enjoy the video? The programme was very successful and their success will benefit the Deaf as people can socialise by meeting new faces, The success of the programme will create awareness as they will learn through presentations, exhibitions, paegentry, etc. It was indeed a successful programme.
